The Shocking Reality Behind Aspen Medical in Fuji
I figured it was high time we had an article detailing the many ways in which we Fijians are being shortchanged when it comes to medical care. Given how hard the COVID-19 disaster has struck Fiji, this is of paramount importance. Our experience with COVID-19 was unlike that of other countries since we lacked a healthcare infrastructure capable of withstanding the pandemic. There have been thousands of deaths as a result, and it’s a tragedy. The government of Fiji thought it had discovered a solution to this problem when it secured an arrangement with Aspen Medical to have the business take over two of the country’s biggest hospitals and remodel them with cutting-edge equipment critical to the population’s well-being. However, neither of these events appears to have occurred. Aspen Medical has continuously let us down, as well as the hospital network for which they are responsible, notwithstanding the agreement.
Two hospitals, Lautoka and Ba, had their operations taken over by Aspen Medical. They had until June 2021, which would have been enough time to renovate both structures, however, nothing happened. Due to a lack of space for additional patients and an inability to handle the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases that were occurring nearby, Lautoka Hospital closed in May 2021. This caused us to go past the deadline for operations. Currently, there is just a little amount of COVID-19 vaccine available for delivery to those who are most in need, leading to the regrettable circumstance where we have used up all of our resources with no hope of recovery.
Aspen Medical did not deliver on its promises. Despite millions of dollars spent, our hospitals have not improved. Aspen Medical has failed to meet its promise of modernizing our healthcare system. Despite investing millions of dollars each year, we continue to operate in the same facilities that we did before this corporation. Aspen Medical hasn’t followed through on its promises or made the necessary changes to the healthcare system. A rise in COVID-19 instances, variants, and fatalities is causing Fiji to collapse. Without the proper infrastructure in place, we quite literally may not make it out alive. With the growing anxiety about the Delta version, we don’t have much time. We have lost too many of our people already, and we need to fight. The reason behind this is that our government didn’t put enough pressure on Aspen Medical to complete their contract with us.
Aspen Medical failed to deliver on its promises to give us a modern healthcare system. We need you to act now; please assist us by pressuring Aspen Medical to fulfill its duties so that our citizens can be protected once more.
